Blessed is a dark, relentless and intensely serious study of errant\u00a0<\/span>teenagers and their preoccupied mothers. Finely acted by a large cast led by\u00a0a jagged, desperate Frances O\u00b9Connor, four thematically linked stories are\u00a0played out on the mean streets of western Melbourne: unhappy mothers\u00a0mistrust their children, drifting children mistrust their mothers.\u00a0Director Kokkinos, known for her sexy, stylised Head On (1998) and The Book
\nof Revelation (2006), works close to documentary realism here, with much\u00a0hand-held camerawork and a street-weary look.<\/p>\n
